BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Four members of Army West Point Softball claimed a spot on the 2022 Softball All-Patriot League Teams, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. Maddie Wilkes and Kayla Edwards headlined with first team honors, while Jolie Duong and Leila Hurst earned a spot on second team.
Wilkes earned the catcher position on the All-League First team after a strong junior campaign. She appeared in 39 games making 33 starts for Army, finishing the regular season batting .308 with 18 RBI and nine runs. The catcher recorded 10 doubles and two home runs at the plate while drawing seven walks. Wilkes recorded a .978 fielding percentage behind the plate and caught three runners stealing this season.
Edwards had a stellar sophomore campaign to earn a spot on first team in the outfield. She started in all 52 games for the Black Knights and finished the regular season with the tenth-best batting average in the league, .333. The sophomore is second in the league for hits (58) and third in doubles (13). Edwards has scored 28 runs and brought in 23 RBI for the Black Knights.
Hurst earned second team nods for her tremendous performance at the plate and at first base for Army. She started in all 48 games she played in and holds a .300 batting average. She leads the team in RBI and is fifth in the league with 30. The junior holds a .956 fielding percentage recording seven double plays this season.
Duong claimed one of two spots for pitchers on second team after tossing 91 strikeouts in 152.1 innings of work. The right handed pitcher holds a record of 10-12 in the circle highlighted by five shutouts. Duong recorded 26 hits at the plate with two doubles and three home runs.
